Two very different prices

Uprova sells two kinds of loans. Stronger applicants may qualify for a personal loan priced around 34.5% to 35.99% APR. Others receive a tribal installment loan, where rates can exceed 700% APR. Independent reviewers note that many borrowers end up with the tribal product, so do not assume the advertised low rate applies to you until you see your offer.

How Uprova works

Loans are repaid in fixed biweekly payments; a common schedule is 20 payments, a little over nine months. Uprova allows one active loan at a time and declines applicants with several active loans from other lenders. There is no fee for paying early. Uprova may check your credit as part of its review.

Why long terms are risky at high rates

Uprova's longer terms make payments smaller, but on the tribal product they also let interest run for longer. At 400% APR, $2,000 over 12 months costs $6,262 in interest; over 6 months it costs $2,866.

Who it may suit

Borrowers with fair credit who may qualify for the personal loan product, or anyone who needs more than other tribal lenders allow. Check which product you are being offered before you sign.
